Daily Jobs

...teaches important skills.

A lot of thought went into selecting each item on the Kids Biz Job Description. Below is a summary of the research that determined a few of the selections:

DAILY JOB: Get up at _____ o'clock.
DAILY JOB: In bed by _____ o'clock so I get _____ hours sleep.
Getting up and going to bed on time is included on the Job Description for several reasons. Most importantly, children require 10 to 12 hours of sleep during their growing years. Currently, experts are concerned that a vast majority of children are suffering from sleep deprivation.

DAILY JOB: Read for pleasure for _____ minutes.
Childhood is the best time to establish the habit of reading for pleasure--and reading is the best way to expand vocabulary. Because the size of your children's vocabulary is so important, we included reading for pleasure as a job on the Kids Biz Job Description. Words are the tools that people use to share thoughts, feelings and ideas. People with an inadequate vocabulary have difficutly expressing themselves and are robbed of the joy that good communication can bring. Ask your children to read about 10 to 30 minutes per day.

DAILY JOB: Complete my homework and pack my school bag.
School is to children as employment is to adults. Jost as many adults tie feelings of self-worth to their success at the office, children develop many concepts of self-worth from academic accomplishments.

Helping your children develop good study habits is essential to their lifelong success. We suggest you place a particular emphasis on the task of completing homework every day. Children are encouraged to keep current with their studies and master the "do it now" habit. The goal of Kids Biz it to have children view study as an essential part of everyday life. Helping your children succeed in school is critical to helping them reach their full potential.

DAILY JOB: Do something extra special for someone.
Ask your children specifically, "What did you do today that was extra special for someone?" Depending on the age of your child, this may include lending a toy, saying a kind word or mowing the elderly neighbor's yard. When children focus on what they do for others, it reinforces kind, generous behavior.

DAILY JOB: Put away all of my clothes and things.
This job teaches the successful habit of "clean as you go". Mastery of this one skill will have an enormous impact on your child's lifelong productivity as well as his peace of mind. Organizational skills can be difficult to learn during childhood, but they are even more challenging to learn as an adult. Show your child precisely what is meant by "putting away all of my clothes and things". That is, will he get his Achievement Check if his shoes are left in the car or a plate is left on the table?

DAILY JOB: Lay out my clothes for tomorrow.
Planning the night before is one of the golden rules of high achievers. This Daily Job helps teach children the important habit of planning ahead. You will be amazed how peaceful each day begins when the last-minute panic to find missing things is eliminated.
