Super Star Contract Rules

The Rules in the Super Star Contract lay out your expectations in concrete terms.

Rule #1: I am expected to do each job with a cheerful attitude and without being told more than once. If I do not, I will not get an Achievement Check for that job.
Stops Nagging and Develops A Cheerful Attitude

This powerful rule develops a winning attitude, reduces nagging and teaches children to respect authority. Your children will take your word more seriously when they lose an Achievement Check for having to be told to do something more than once. They quickly learn that they must do their jobs, and it's more fun to do them cheerfully and independently so they can receive credit.

Since the goal is to help your children succeed at their job, one reminder is acceptable. As time goes by and they become accustomed to their routine, the reminder becomes unnecessary. You'll be amazed how peaceful life becomes. Children begin doing their jobs automatically, which greatly reduces nagging and conflict.

You can do nothing effectually without enthusiasm. -- Guizot

Rule #2: To earn credit, my Checks must be filled in before going to bed, so I learn to live one day at a time.
Teaches Children To Live One Day At A Time

This Kids Biz rule is one of the most important parts of the Program. It teaches children to live one day at a time, and prevents procrastination. Living one day at a time prevents children from feeling overwhelmed--one of the most commonly felt emotions of modern society. As your children's Success Coach, you will certainly want them to grasp this valuable lesson.

Rule #3: Honesty is extremely important, so if I give myself an Achievement Check without doing my job, I lose all my checks for the day. This is called a Wipe-Out!
Encourages Honesty and Integrity

This rule develops the much respected trait of honesty. It discourages children from stretching the truth when completing their Job Description and Super Star Contract. The temptation to exaggerate and not tell the truth is common among young children. Telling the truth must become a habit because honesty is among the most coveted and desirable traits people look for when choosing spouses, friends, business partners and employees.

You climb the higest by staying on the level. -- Zig Zigler

Rule #4: If I spend all my money, I may not borrow without paying interest. (Best solution: Volunteer to do extra jobs to earn more money.)
Teaches Children to Live Within Their Means

According to Ron and Judy Blue in their book Money Matters for Parents and their Kids, "People spend 34% more money when using credit cards than when paying cash." A critical budgeting lesson for children to learn is that when all of their money is gone, they are unable to buy what they want or go where they wish until they have earned more money. If parents give money to children when their funds are exhausted, parents deprive them of an essential learning experience. We recommend you help your children find extra jobs they can do to earn more money. If the occasion arises where they absolutely need money, establish a loan plan with a repayment schedule and charge them interest.

Optional Rule: If I do not do my Top Priority Daily jobs which are highlighted on my Job Description, I get a Daily Jobs Wipe-Out!
Overcomes Procrastination

This rule (not on the Super Star Contract) helps children overcome their tendency to avoid tasks they don't like to do. We all have things we would rather not do--children are no different! To prevent task avoidance and procrastination, we established the "Top Priority" rule.

At the Weekly Meeting, highlight one to three jobs your children are resisting or you think are especially important. These become the Top Priority Jobs for the week. For example, daily piano practice might be one of the week's Top Priority JObs. Highlight the piano practice row, including each day you want your child to practice. If you give Sundays off, don't highlight the check-space ofr Sunday. Explain to your children that Top Priority Jobs must be done to earn any Achievement Checks for the day. If they are not completed, they will get a Wipe-Out! More than three Wipe-Outs in one week will cause them to lose their Super Star Contract privilege. A word of caution--only use the Top Priority Job rule if necessary. Emphasize positive reinforcement throught the use of Freebies.
